I’ve been wanting to post this piece I wrote on Maura for a couple weeks
oh and speaking of other good music from MA if you’re not listing to California X or Stereo Telescope youre doing it wrong. respectively, read deli write ups here and here.
This Thursday there’s a ripper of an all-ages show early in the evening over in Allston towne, courtesy of the cool cats at Boston Hassle and B.O.W. Shows. These dudes have been tireless in pursuing new venues and locations for all-ages experimental and DIY music in the area, and it appears they’ve done it again with this venue, Union Cafe.
From Washington comes the avant, brutalist, deconstructed world music stylings of ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO, who I’ve been following since his days in the supremely entertaining herky-jerky noisepunk combo OLD TIME RELIJUN. In years past his sound and delivery have changed markedly with alarming regularity, so I’m honestly not sure exactly what his set will sound like this week, other than to say that it is guaranteed to be the dog’s bollocks.
As if that’s not reason enough to head on down, BLEVIN BLECTUM (of Blectum from Blechdom fame) will be visiting from Providence to hit you up with her psychedelic-ass electronic brain mashings and local weirdos ROTTEN APPLES complete the trifecta.
It should go without saying that you should be ultra, extra friendly and respectful towards the proprietors of this new venue so that they’ll want to keep bringing the younguns the weirdness their lives so desperately require. Otherwise, it’s back to the never-ending basement venue scramble and shows that I can’t even tell you about without feeling like a narc. Nobody wants that, right?!
Plus dig that 10pm end time! Got work early the next day or some debauchery to get into later that evening? NO BIG! FABULOSO!!!
