I should’ve seen it as an omen for my soon to be crazy ride on the 66 bus. There are always interesting characters on this route but today really ticked me off. One man decided that he had the right to rant and rave and curse and demean innocent strangers. I didn’t know what to do. It’s not illegal to vaguely threaten in Massachusetts is it? He was just voicing his general desire to beat anyone up that crossed him.
This was bad enough but then he started claiming to be a gigolo and describing in detail the women he has slept with. Unprovoked, unwarranted, unsolicited and completely unjustifiable speech of an extreme sexual nature really upsets me. No one should be exposed to that without consenting first. I’m far from a prude but everything has an appropriate context.
Being verbally aggressive in both a violent and sexual manner in public should not be tolerated, but I didn’t feel like I could safely do anything to challenge this man. I stayed silent and avoided eye contact just like everyone else. So this asshole gets to keep on doing this and more people are subjected to it.
It just saddens me that this happens and there isn’t an easily available method of retaliation.
You are allowed to yell at a person, or tell the T conductor, or do anything if you’re being harassed. Stand tall!
